Obituary for Richard V. Lindborg

– Richard Vernon Lindborg, 84, a lifelong resident of Missoula, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2015, at St. Patrick Hospital. He lived life the way he wanted, mowing his lawn and tending to his burn pile up until his final days.

Dick was the youngest of three children, born in Missoula to Carl and Hilma Lindborg, immigrants to Montana from Sweden and Finland. He was raised on the family farm in Target Range with his older brother Robert and sister Alice. Grade school was spent in the little white schoolhouse there. In 1949 he graduated from Missoula County High School and went on to attend Montana State College in Bozeman for a brief time.

In 1956, he married Constance Marie Bergh in Froid. In 2002, shortly after they celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary, Connie passed away from cancer.

Dick spent much of his early working years at Johnson Bell Airport employed as a radio repair technician. He also worked as a ticket agent for Northwest Airlines. He spent a 3-month stint on the remote Alaskan island of Shemya working as a radio operator providing flight following for trans-pacific air traffic. In 1975 he switched careers and went to work for AMSCO as a hospital equipment service tech. For the next 18 years he traveled the highways of Western Montana servicing many area hospitals. In 1993, he retired and spent his remaining years tinkering around his home of 50 years where he had raised his family. It was around this time that he assumed his nickname "Ducky" by a family friend's young son.

Dick was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, VASA Swedish Lodge, Hellgate Amateur Radio Club and the Museum of Mountain Flying.

Dick's hobbies included being a pilot, anything aviation, HAM radio (W7OHH), computers, building and fixing things around his home and his affinity for driving and repairing Volkswagens. Dick's dog Riggi was his faithful companion to the end bringing much joy to him and those around him.

Preceding Dick in death are his parents, his older brother Robert and his wife Connie.

Dick is survived by his four children, Kai Richard (Tracie), Karl Johann (Charlotte), Elise Dagne (Kelli), Andrew Eric (Shelley) and his grandchildren, Dillon (Katrina), Beau, Justin (Caitlin), Kallie (Jeremy), Torgeir, Taylor, Jorgen, Noah and his sister Alice as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to his longtime neighbors Alyce Jenkins and Ed and Esther Heist.
