– Richard "Dick" Farbo, 70, of Missoula, passed away at his home Friday, April 18, 2014.
He was born Jan. 22, 1944, to Alvin and Elaine (Lund) Farbo in Minneapolis, the first of five children. His early years were spent in Minneapolis until the family moved to Karlstad, Minn., where Dick attended elementary school. He then attended and graduated from Maplewood Academy in Hutchinson, Minn., in 1962.
An adventurous person, Dick moved west to make a life for himself in Spokane and Missoula. He worked in many professions over his lifetime, but enjoyed the freedom of truck driving the best. Mechanical and intelligent, he was good at any number of jobs but chose primarily over-the-road trucking for his profession.
As he got older, he developed new interests, including leather working and attending rendezvous events. He was a great storyteller, as many of his friends and family can attest. He always loved the outdoors – hunting and fishing as often as possible. He also became a great cook and loved to do so over an open fire.
Dick is survived by his two daughters, Tracy and Christie Farbo; sisters, Linda (Ruben) Thorbus and Carole Cloutier; brothers, Philip (Michelle) Farbo and Craig (Lora) Farbo; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Cremation will take place at Garden City Funeral Home and a memorial celebration of Dick's life will be held at the Missoula Senior Center, 705 S. Higgins Ave., on Saturday, May 10, from 4 to 6 p.m. Coffee and snacks will be provided.
