Obituary for Richard Chambers (Dick)

Richard (Dick) Chambers, of Missoula, passed away at his home on Monday, November 10, 2014, from an aggressive form of liver cancer.
He was born on September 9, 1941, in Great Falls to David and Alice Chambers. He spent his early years on a ranch in the Little Belt Mountains out of Raynesford, MT. The family moved to Great Falls where he attended the Ursuline Academy and later graduated from Great Falls High School. He then attended the College of Great Falls. He served as a Marine Reservist beginning in 1960. After a construction accident in the summer of 1963, Dick began his career in the insurance industry with the Cogswell Agency.
Later, he moved to Missoula and started his own insurance agency called Chambers & Associates and continued in the commercial insurance arena for 35 years. During this timeframe, he married the love of his life, Phyllis Taylor, and they have spent the last 42 years together.
Upon Richard's retirement, he and Phyllis spent much of their time golfing, travelling, especially to Mexico and the Southwest, and enjoying their three adult children and seven grandchildren (the seven rug rats).
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #13 and Algeria Shrine Temple/Western Montana Shrine Club. Dick served as President of the Missoula Motor Patrol and participated in many parades across the state. Dick was also a member of Grace United Methodist Church for 40 years, and though he coveted the many cinnamon rolls that went out his door to church functions, he continued to give and uphold his faith.
Richard's family will be forever grateful for the liver transplant he received in May, 2006.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of Missoula; two sons and their families, Leon (Kim) Chambers and Darrell (AnnMarie) Chambers, both of Missoula; one daughter and her family, Stacie (Farrell) Stensrud of Missoula; three sisters, Alice Page of Cave Creek, AZ, Carol Dritshulas of Missoula, Janet Benson of Great Falls; two brothers, David Chambers and Joseph (Donna) Chambers, both of Missoula, along with seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Irene Gabriel.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace United Methodist Church or the Algeria Shrine Temple.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Missoula for their tender care and support.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 18th at Grace United Methodist Church, 1756 10th Street West (corner of 10th and Garfield) at 2:00 p.m. A celebration of Dick's life will follow at Joker's Wild, 4829 N. Reserve St.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden City Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place.
