MISSOULA - Richard Allen Cardwell, 69, of Missoula, passed away Friday, January. 23, 2009, at his residence of natural causes.
He was born July 6, 1939, in Kokomo, Ind., to Virgil and Hilda Cardwell. Richard grew up on a farm in Indiana with his younger brother, Thomas, and graduated from Windfall High School in Windfall, Ind.
He moved to Washington, D.C., and joined the Metropolitan Police Force. He later became a member of the Uniformed Division of the Secret Service assigned to the White House. He was a member of the Pistol Team winning many awards and competitions across the country.
He retired early due to a work related back injury and moved to Missoula. He resided in Montana for more than 40 years n hunting, fishing, shooting, and enjoying the beautiful mountains and rivers of what he called “God’s Country.”
Survivors include his son, Corey, daughter-in-law, Tania, and their three children, Jonah Richard, Michaela Grace and Kali Rose of Lolo; and brother, Thomas and his family of Brandywine, Md.
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Lions Den Church, with Pastor Jon Meek officiating.
