Obituary for Randy J Holdsambeck

Randy Jay Holdsambeck, 53, of Missoula, passed away on Friday, March 24 at St. Patrick Hospital of liver failure.
He was born April 15, 1963 in Missoula to Edwin “Lee” Holdsambeck and Jean S. Holdsambeck where he joined his older brother Rex Lee Holdsambeck. As a young boy he grew up in Missoula attending Lewis & Clark Elementary School then Sentinel High School, graduating in 1981. His favorite things to do growing up were camping and fishing with both his immediate and extended families. The many visits that his dad, mom, brother and he took to Plains and Thompson Falls, MT were also very enjoyed by him growing up, as he was able to spend time with both his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Randy grew up with a great love of football, especially his beloved Los Angeles Rams that his father got him into watching, then onto the St. Louis Rams that he carried the tradition on with his own children (who later chose their own teams, except for his son Josh and only daughter Kaylee) and was able to see them return to L.A. before his passing. His other past time was attending and raising his voice loud and clear to cheer on our local Grizzlies at Washington Grizzly Stadium.
During high school he loved delivering the Missoulian, which he later helped his son Kent on his own paper route. He also worked with a close friend of his at V.W. Ice until finally in June 1983; he made the decision to work alongside his dad and brother at Tire-Rama where he found a passion for working on vehicles for the next 32 years, when he left this career due to his failing health.
In 1989, he married his first wife and then in 1990 he adopted her two boys, Josh Holdsambeck and Kent Holdsambeck. They lived in Missoula and were divorced in 1996.
He then met and married Jackie Ann Jacobson on July 23, 1999. It was a very long 3 years before they welcomed “Their Twins”, Jayce and Kaylee Holdsambeck. They were their little miracles and were the love of his life.
During the years he enjoyed helping both his family and friends with anything they needed help with, especially when it came to woodworking or any kind of tinkering on a vehicle or home. He was active in his son’s boy scouting and even helped him build a pinewood derby car that took him to a First Place finish. Another one of his many loves was developing and later spending countless days at the property that he and his brother owned in Trout Creek, MT.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, maternal grandparents and paternal grandparents. Survivors include his children Jayce and Kaylee Holdsambeck with their mother Jackie Holdsambeck all of Missoula; his brother Rex Holdsambeck with wife Shannon Holdsambeck and niece Erika Kuepfer all of Missoula; his son Josh Holdsambeck of Kalispell and son Kent Holdsambeck of Missoula, along with numerous cousins and extended family from coast to coast.
The family would like to say a special thanks to several local family members who helped during Randy’s last few weeks. Also a special thanks to all the many physicians, nurses and support staff that provided care to Randy and support to his family from St. Patrick Hospital and CDCN Home Health and Hospice of MT. Thanks also to Dr. Cone, his PCP for many years along with his staff.
Funeral Service will take place on Friday, March 31 at 1:00 at Garden City Funeral Home with a dessert reception to follow. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers an account has been set up at Horizon Credit Union, 2330 South Reserve, Missoula, MT 59801; for Randy’s children, Jayce & Kaylee Holdsambeck. Please make checks payable to either Horizon Credit Union or Jackie Holdsambeck with the children’s name in the memo line.
