Randolph H. Jeppesen passed away peacefully on Nov. 15, 2014 surrounded by his family and under the compassionate care of the nurses and staff of the 5th floor of Providence St. Patrick's Hospital.
Randy was born on October 7, 1932 to Ingolf and Magnhild (Forseth) Jeppesen in Shelby, Montana. He was raised on the family ranch with his three brothers near Galata, Montana.
In 1952 he entered the Air Force and served as Staff Sargent in Korea. He was proud to be called a "Remington Raider."
In 1955 he registered at Montana State University in Missoula. While attending school and working at Safeway, he met his future wife, Rosalie Smith.
Randy and Rose were married on August 16, 1958 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Missoula. They moved to Urbana, Illinois where Randy finished his Masters Degree in Physics and where their first child, Ronald, was born.
Upon completion of his degree, Randy was offered a job with IBM in a research lab in Fishkill, New York. During their time in New York, their daughter, Lori, was born.
In 1961, Randy accepted a teaching job with the University of Montana in Missoula. The family moved back and soon welcomed their third child, Patricia.
It was when they returned to Missoula, that Randy and Rose were invited to attend a new church that was forming. They became charter members of Atonement Lutheran Church. Randy and Rose have seen and supported many changes in the church that had small humble beginnings.
Randy worked over twenty summers in Los Alamos, New Mexico at LAMPF (Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility.) He later received his PhD at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. He retired in 1999 after thirty-eight years of teaching at the University of Montana.
Randy is survived by his wife, Rose. Their children Ron Jeppesen, Lori Cummings, Trish and Phil Flores. Their grandchildren: Nathan and Jenna (Haven) Cummings, Jeremy and Eva Flores, Jordan Cummings and Randy Flores. His brother and his wife, Marvin and Sandy Jeppesen as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Arnold Jeppesen and brother and his wife, Harris and Cecelia Jeppesen.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, November 20th, at Atonement Lutheran Church, 2205 34th Street SW Missoula, Montana.
The family asks that any memorials be sent to Atonement Lutheran Church for the Sound System Memorial Fund, the Poverello Center or the Missoula Food Bank.
