Obituary for Rae Bernice Scott

MISSOULAâ,**– Rae Bernice (McMenus) Scott, 93, passed away peacefully at the Village Health Care Center on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, due to natural causes complicated by advanced dementia.

Rae was born to Charles and Margaret (Gourley) McMenus in Phillipsburg, Mo., on Oct. 31, 1919. The family soon moved to Montana, and she was always known as "Bee" during her childhood and adult years. Bee attended schools in Dixon, Arlee and Polson, graduated from high school in Hot Springs, and attended Modern Beauty College in Missoula.

Bee also spent some time living and working in Seattle with her sister Margaret "Mickey" in the early 1940s. She was married to Donald V. Scott in Missoula on March 28, 1944. Bee and Don lived in Missoula all of their married life, which counted 50 years before Don passed away in 1994. Together they raised five children.

Bee was active with their children as a leader in Cub Scouts and 4-H as well as helping to establish the Missoula County Sheep Association. She was a member of the Hawthorne School PTA, attended the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, was a barn supervisor at the Western Montana Fair for several years, and active in local bowling and square dancing groups with Don.

Bee developed a thriving business in the family home as a skilled seamstress and later also worked for several years in the alterations department at the Bon Marche, besides being on call as a baby sitter for the several grandchildren coming into her life.

Bee was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; sisters, Joan Scott and Margaret Campbell; brothers, Neil, Charles and Thomas; nephew, Dale Scott; niece, Kerry McMenus-Boyle; and her mother-in-law, Mabel Benson.

She is survived by daughters, Peggy (Wendall) Beye and Betty (Richard) Poitras, and son, Donald C. Scott, all of Missoula; daughter, Joan (Phillip) Wiley of Horton, Kan.; son, Thomas (Bobbi) Scott of Las Vegas; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-greatgrandchildren; plus several nieces, nephews and cousins.

No services will be held. Burial arrangements are being handled by Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. The Beye, Poitras and Wiley families would like to make a special mention of thanks to the awesome staff at Village Health Care for all their help, support, and the wonderful care given to their mother while she was a resident. Each of us had many special encounters with you during our visits, and we all so appreciate everything that was done to make her last years as good as possible.
