Rachel Price

MISSOULA - Rachel B. Price passed away Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at the Country Home Estate Assisted Living. She passed quietly in her sleep.





She was born July 6, 1912, in a log house north of Whitehall, the daughter of Nellie Livingston and Byron M. Bowman. She attended grade school in Whitehall until 1924 when the family joined relatives in Hawaii. After graduation from high school in Honolulu, Rachel moved back to Whitehall and she finished her education at Dillon to become a teacher.





In 1935, she married Albert L. Jones and had one son, Albert Byron, before being divorced. In 1940, Rachel and Al joined Claude R. Price in matrimony and a second son, James Claude Price was born. Price was a railroad man and they lived in Helena, Jefferson City, Wallace, Idaho, and finally Missoula, the marriage having lasted 57 years. C. R. Price passed away March 6, 1997.





Rachel’s special interests were her religious faith, family, children, friends and neighbors, seniorobics, Extension Club, hiking, and raising flowers for church. She liked to crochet, knit and do beadwork. She loved music, listening and just being happy.





She was preceded in death by her parents; an older sister, Edith B. McMillan; a brother, Byron Livingston Bowman; and brother-in-law, Eddie J. Price. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Cora Bowman of Tigard, Ore.; sons, Albert B. Price of Missoula, James C. Price of Potomac; grandchildren, Matthew Price serving in the Navy, and Jessica Wermager attending college in Pueblo, Colo.; brother-in-law, Jack Price and his wife Juanita of Deer Lodge.





She is also survived by her youngest sister, Nellie Bowman Eachus, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and “adopted” family.





A memorial service will be held Friday, Feb. 27, at 1 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church with reception to follow.
