Obituary for Rachel M. Hayes

Rachel M. Hayes, 78, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at The Springs of Missoula. She was born on Oct. 15, 1934, in Missoula one of 15 children to John and Mary (Benner) Mohland.

She attended grade school at Lowell School and graduated from Missoula County High School in 1952. She attended the nursing program at St. Patrick Hospital and graduated in 1955. She continued her nursing education in Portland, Ore. She received her bachelor of science degree from the University of Oregon in 1971. Following her education in Portland, she became a Public Health Nurse for Multnomah County where she worked until her retirement in 1992. She returned to Missoula in 1994.

She was a longtime member of the Four Square Gospel Church. She was also a volunteer for the Reading Program at Hellgate Elementary School for several years. She was an avid reader and was also very interested in politics.

She was preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers, Reinholt, Sam, Al, Robert, John, Art, Hank and an infant brother and four sisters, Sarah, Alta, Clara and Jacqueline.

She is survived by one brother, Walt Mohland of Saginaw, Mich., and a sister, Norma Mohland of Missoula; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Rachel will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at the Missoula City Cemetery with Nate Luibrand officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory
