Peter Martin "Marty" Rigg, 63, passed away peacefully Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, from complications of an anoxic brain injury.
Marty is survived by his wife, Shari Rigg, and their sons, Paulo Rigg of Chicago and Donato Rigg of Seattle; and seven grandchildren. Marty was preceded in death by his son, Rodrigo. Marty was the first-born child of the late Peter and Lillian Rigg and is survived by his four siblings, Cindy Chumrau, Missoula; Barbara Callaghan, Missoula; Liz Witt, Carter; and Robert Rigg, Kalispell; their spouses; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
In his early adulthood, Marty struggled with addiction to alcohol and was very grateful to have 27 years of alcohol sobriety at the time of his death. Marty grew up in Great Falls, attended the University of Montana, then worked for the railroad for 30 years. He retired three years ago from Amtrak, where he had worked as a locomotive engineer.
Marty loved to drive the train, but golfing was his real love. You could almost always find him on the golf course with his buddies enjoying their friendly wagers and crazy golf games. Marty was generous, kind, friendly and an all-around good guy. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends who know he is at peace.
A memorial service will be held in Missoula at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Friday, Aug. 28, at 3 p.m. followed by a gathering of family and friends in celebration of Marty's life.
