Retired businessman Pete Addeo, 66, passed away peacefully Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, after a brief illness. He was at home surrounded by many loving family members when he passed away.
Pete was a strong, vibrant, stubborn bull of a man who loved family above all and will be so missed by all his family and friends. He was born May 9, 1947, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Eugene and Anna Galasso Addeo, the third in a family with two sisters, Carol and JoAnne.
The family moved to California when Pete was about 9 years old, settling in Van Nuys, Calif., where he graduated from Notre Dame High School. He volunteered to join the Navy Seebees as a young man and served two tours of duty in Vietnam, building bridges and operating heavy equipment. On one of his leaves, he returned to California to marry his high school sweetheart, Jane Whitmore, in 1967. After his honorable discharge from the service, he returned to California to raise a family with Jane. They had five children together: Lisa, Peter Jr., Angela, Anthony and Regina. They were later divorced.
In 1988 he and Carolyn Wurth Jensen met in San Diego and began a 24-year relationship of fun, adventure and hard work. They enjoyed many trips by car, motor home, motorcycle and cruise to Alaska, Seaside, Ore., Las Vegas, San Diego, Yellowstone Park, Victoria, B.C., Seattle, and many, many camping trips to Montana and Idaho sites with children and grandchildren.
Pete was a self-made man of many talents. As a young married father he worked several jobs, whatever it took to survive, and he soon learned the construction building trade from his father, eventually starting his own construction company. He was an entrepreneur of various types of businesses throughout his life, starting insurance agencies in both Hemet, Calif., and San Diego. He used his sales ability, too, when he worked for a Yellow Page advertising company.
He and Carolyn moved to Missoula in the mid-1990s and together they started several publishing ventures, including Big Sky Publications, which published the Diner's Club Menu Books and printed books for authors who wanted to self-publish. When they sold this business after working it together for nine years, Pete did not skip a beat as he started three more businesses, Doctor PC Computer Sales and Service, Online Montana, an Internet service, and Laptop Parts and Sales. He worked them all until he sold Doctor PC and retired in 2010. He was especially proud of his accomplishment to become Microsoft certified as a trainer and tester for new products. He was truly a hard-working entrepreneur.
He was a longtime member of the Missoula Iris Society, holding positions as president, treasurer, newsletter editor and website host for many years. Occasionally he did his share of weed pulling and dirt shuffling at the iris display gardens at Fort Missoula.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Anna; his first wife, Jane Addeo; sister Carol and brother-in-law Joe Petroliere; and his oldest son, Peter S. Addeo Jr. in 2003.
He is survived by his sister JoAnne Grant of Missoula; daughter Lisa Yearsley of Sacramento, Calif.; daughter Angela Hooks-Addeo of Missoula; son Anthony Addeo of Redding, Calif.; and daughter Regina Addeo of Elk Grove, Calif. He is also survived by his former wife, Carolyn Addeo of Missoula; stepdaughter Sheri Wurth of Missoula; stepson Tim Wurth of Billings; nephew Charles Grant of Portland, Ore.; niece Anna Marie Petroliere of Hemet; and nephew Joe Petroliere of Hemet.
He was a much-loved grandfather and great-grandfather with 17 grandchildren in Montana and California and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved Macaw parrot, Marley, and his good friend and roommate, Allen Current.
Services will be announced. Cremation is planned with a military service at Western Montana Veterans Cemetery. Arrangements are with Cremation &â,**Burial Society of the Rockies
