Missoula – Pete Stuckey, 92, of Missoula passed away on June 12, 2013 at Community Hospital.
He was born in Wyndmere, ND to Harriett (Eastman) and Simon Peter Stuckey on November 12, 1920. Pete worked on the farm with his five older sisters along with attending grade school and graduating high school in Wyndmere. At age 18 he moved to Missoula to live among sisters and families.
On February 8, 1942 he married Betty Larke and they made Missoula home for the remainder of their lives.
Pete enlisted in the U.S. Army in May 1942. He served in Kodiak, Alaska and France where he received his Purple Heart. Pete was honorably discharged November 1945.
Pete was a hardworking man throughout his 92 years and always a very kind, loving and generous man to family and friends. He was also known as "The Tomato Man" as his love and expertise for gardening lasted his entire life. After retirement he turned to woodworking, creating many beautiful mirrors, trivets and plates by the hundreds.
Fishing was one of his favorite hobbies. Many hours were spent teaching his children and grandchildren the fine points of the sport. Music and dancing were always a major part of his life as he continued dancing (and loving every minute) right to the end.
Pete worked at the White Pine & Sash for 35 years and was also the Financial Secretary of the Union at that time. He was also a Realtor.
He was preceded in death by wife Betty, his parents and five sisters.
Surviving are his children Tom (Sandi) Stuckey and Sherry Steinert; five grandchildren, Deb Graham, Rick Steinert, Shannon Blanken, Cassandra Stiff and Casey Stuckey; three great grandchildren, Veronica Nelsen, Nick Graham and Evelyn Blanken; and two great great grandchildren, Olivia Grace and Brady Peter Nelsen.
Cremation has taken place and a private memorial gathering for family and close friends for both Pete and Betty will be held with Military Honors.
If you wish, memorials in Pete's honor and memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Garden City Funeral Home & Crematory.
