Obituary for Patrick L Coyle

Patrick Lewis Coyle, 78, passed quietly at home Tuesday morning July 3rd, 2018 with his family by his side. He was diagnosed with Peritoneal Mesothelioma in January of 2018. He always had to be different. We don’t know where or how he got it. He was sure he could beat it & never gave up. He said if there were a 1000 different things he could get that would be 1001. Pat was born to Claude & Ruth Coyle on March 12, 1940 in Helena, MT. He grew up in Helena & graduated from Cathedral High School in 1958, as one of the CHS Greenies. Pat served as the master of ceremonies for all the class reunions until this year’s 60th reunion when his health prohibited him from attending. Pat cherished all his classmates. After high school Pat spent some time in the National Guard & attended MSU. Pat married the love of his life Patricia Sado in Helena on May 7th, 1960, together they had 4 children. The family lived in Bozeman, Helena, & Billings MT where he was an insurance adjuster. He moved the family to Missoula in 1975 & was the owner of 8 Ball Billiards. He purchased Mr. C’s Lounge in 1979. In 1980 he started the first St. Patrick’s Day parade in Missoula & loved being the grand Marshall of his own parade. He opened Paddy’s Soup & San after starting the parade so he could have a place to cook the corned beef & cabbage. A recipe was given to him from a customer for the special sauce that was served on all the corned beef. Being very proud of his Irish Heritage, Pat and Patty were honored in 2005 as Irish man and woman of the year. He started the first bus rides to the Griz games back when basketball was more popular than football. He also had the first big screen TV in Missoula at Mr. C’s & began Monday night football parties with his bartenders wearing referee shirts. People said why would you do that? In 1995 Pat sold Mr. C’s Lounge & began his next adventure in fleet sales at Missoula Nissan. After leaving Missoula Nissan he was a courier for Treasure State Bank until his retirement. During the summer of 2017 Pat & Patty downsized leaving their home of 34 years to a beautiful town house. This was not an easy task but he finally picked out a closet in the new home & moved in his golf shirts & clubs. Pat was a member of the Missoula Country Club, Lions Club, Sentinel Booster Club, Golden Grizzly, Montana Tavern Association, Missoula Chamber of Commerce, Quarterback Club & several golf leagues. Pat enjoyed traveling with his wife to Hawaii, Ireland & Scotland. Any place that had a golf course. He loved watching golf, playing golf & talking about golf. He leaves behind 5 sets of golf clubs and hundreds of golf shirts. He enjoyed spending time with his family, barbecuing steaks medium rare only, toasting martini’s with all his friends, watching old movies, the gold cable package, going to Costco, crossword puzzles, Gin, putting on his Patrick beautiful kit (main ingredient Old Spice), writing poems, his veggie garden, bagpipes, music & karaoke. He loved to sing & was singing his favorite Sinatra songs until the end. His favorite show was Wheel of Fortune where he was a member of the Wheel Watchers Club. He said he had one of the oldest numbers & knew he would cash in one day. He always had a smile & good story to tell. He is preceded in death by his parents, Brother Jim & Sisters Mary Belle, Betty & Patty. Survivors include his wife of 58 years Patty, Missoula. His daughters, Shari Coyle (Barb), Missoula, Marijo Bowe (Mike), Kennewick, WA. & Kelly Tomaszewski (Eric), Missoula. His son Mike Coyle Drummond, MT. Grandchildren Morgan, Garrett, Zach, Chloe, Ellie, Kenzee & Braxton. Great Grandchildren Gavin, Joslyn, & his mini me, Nolan. Sisters Mickey Elliott, & Sally Trudnowski. His many nieces, nephews, cousins, & countless friends.
Special thanks to Dr. Yahn, Partners in Home Care, Hospice & our Mom who took care of him 24/7 until the end. We love you Dad! A celebration of Pat’s life is pending. We know he is having a martini at the 19th hole & singing with Sinatra. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Partners in Home Care & Hospice.
