Patricia (Pat) Laura Hineline Cline, 83, of Missoula, MT passed away into the waiting arms of our Lord at the Village Health Care Center in Missoula, MT on November 29, 2013.
Pat was born on May 29, 1930, in Omaha, NE, to Veronica (Chullino) and Lawrence Hineline. She attended Mercy High School in Omaha, NE and then graduated from the Creighton University School of Nursing through St. Catherine's Hospital in Omaha, NE in 1951. She began her career as a registered nurse at Greater Community Hospital in Creston, IA. There she met and married George Robert Hopkins (deceased) and together they raised six children. A seventh child, Mary Veronica, died in infancy.
Pat served as Director of Nursing at the hospital in Creston from 1969-1972. During that time Pat met and married Dr. Donald Cline (deceased). They left Iowa, lived in Birmingham, MI for several years before settling in Salida, CO, where they opened a private medical practice. During that time, Pat returned to school to obtain her B.P.A. degree in 1986 from St. Joseph's College, Standish, Maine. After almost 18 years in Salida, they retired and moved to Montana, eventually settling in Missoula.
Pat had a deep, religious faith which guided her throughout her life, serving as the foundation for her strong, moral compass. She fully supported her family, and was at her husband's (Don Cline), side as he attended the diaconate seminary through St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary in Colorado and was ordained as a deacon in the Catholic Church. They were members of St. Anthony Catholic Parish while in Missoula.
Pat enjoyed traveling, usually in Don's private plane. She enjoyed baking bread and cooking. Never idle, she created works of art crocheting afghans and quilting. Music and books filled her life and her home. She was a wonderful mother, setting an example of sacrifice and hard work. Pat may have been small in stature, but she was mighty in purpose. Her high standards and expectations for excellence greatly influenced anyone who crossed her path.
While Pat helped and cared for many people during her medical career, her greatest legacy continues through the lives of her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her six children: Michael (Victoria) Hopkins of Truth or Consequences, NM; Dr. Penelope Isabella of Loveland, OH; Dr. Mary (Mick) Hopkins-Gill of Howard, CO; Martha (Fred) McClurg of North Liberty, IA; Mark (Pamela) Hopkins of Naples, FL; and Matthew (Amy Roullier) Hopkins of Missoula, MT; her seven grandchildren: James Robert (J.B) and Jeffery Dale Hopkins; Jedidiah (Anna), Josiah, Moriah and Micah McClurg; Natalia Hopkins; and her great-granddaughter, Keira Hopkins. Pat is also survived by her brother, John (Carol) Scalzo of Yucca Valley, CA. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Annette Scalzo Olson and her husband, Don Cline.
She is deeply missed by all. A private, family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family suggests that your prayers, or donations in memory of Pat, be sent to the American Heart Association, St. Anthony Catholic Church of Missoula, or a local educational or nursing program of your choice.
