Obituary for Ora E. Mackie

-Ora E. Mackie, 80, passed away peacefully Sunday morning October 5th at Pearl Gardens in the Village Senior Residence. She was born Nov. 5, 1933 in Malott, WA to Roy and Athel Thrapp. She was the third of five living siblings. She graduated from Okanogan H.S. in 1951, she married George (Shorty) Mackie in August of 1952. They spent the first few years in Olympia, WA while George was in the service. She was a civilian secretary to a General. In 1954 Ronald was born and in 1958 Marilyn was born. Ora was a homemaker who worked in the family orchard and packed fruit. She went to work in 1970 as a bookkeeper for Mid-Valley Clinic, later the family purchased a ski shop, a local ski store and spent many happy years working in the wintertime providing ski equipment rentals. George and Ora had forty-five wonderful years together before George's passing in 1998. They spent many happy years travelling the U.S. after retirement.
In 1999, Ora made the big decision to move to Missoula to be near her daughter and son-in-law. She built her own home and loved being around her grandson, Matthew. She spent many hours planting her roses and flowers in her yard. She loved her new home and made many friends. She got involved in sewing and quilting at the Bernina Center, where she made many wonderful friends. She was also involved in the Methodist Churches in town. She was an avid golfer, Sunday School Teacher, led the church children's choir, 4-H leader, loved to ski, hike, go boating, swimming and travel. She and dad went to Hawaii for their 25th Anniversary and went back every year until dad was unable. Mom was a loving wife, mother, sister and will be missed by all.
Ora is survived by her brothers Jim , Wayne (Gayle) Thrapp; son Ron (Kim), daughter Marilyn (Jim) Olivarez; Five grandsons, who were the light of her life, Jeremy (Bronwen), Brent (Christine) and Dustin Mackie, Jason (Lindsay) and Matthew (Karen) Olivarez. She had three great-grandchildren, Brennen and Elaina Mackie and Ellary Olivarez.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Garden City Funeral Home with a reception following.
