Opal A Smith

– Opal Smith passed away Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016, at The Springs in Missoula.

She was born in Augusta in 1931 and married Don Smith in November 1947 in Choteau. They moved to Washington state after their marriage in 1947. They lived there until 1948 and then returned to Libby.

They purchased some property in Ski Dale, built their home and raised their four children, Connie, Judy, Mike and Calvin, They have 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Don passed away April 26, 2013.

Opal worked at Rosauers grocery store in Libby for 25 years. She was well liked by all of the customers. Many times I have heard how people waited to get into her line. She always had a smile for everyone. Even today if I meet someone on the street they remember her and they tell me how great she was.

Her hobbies included woodworking, snowmobiling and walking. She enjoyed the yardwork and her house. Later after retiring, she enjoyed golfing with Don.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, at Schnackenburg & Nelson Funeral Home in Libby. Condolences and memories may be left for the family at gardencityfh.com.
