Obituary for O'Dean Paul Henderson

O’Dean Paul Henderson was born in Plentywood, Montana to Bernice and Joe Henderson on October 19, 1949. He peacefully released his ties to this earth on September 27, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.
During his younger years O’Dean and his family moved around the west and southwest following his father’s construction jobs. In 1963 the family settled in Missoula, Montana where he attended Missoula County High School graduating from Hellgate High in 1967. There he met the men that became his lifelong friends and through them met several more. They remained constant and supportive friends to the very end.
O’Dean attended the University of Montana for a little over a year until work called his name. He began working road construction all around Montana. While at the University his love of the Grizzlies began and it grew throughout his life.
On June 26, 1976 he married Penny Branning, the woman he would love and share forty years with, the rest of his life. Together they raised two amazingly strong and beautiful daughters, Lindsey and Brittney. Also with his marriage to Penny he gained the added bonus of a huge family of loving in-laws.
In 1977 they moved to St. Regis and O’Dean began his life as a logger. In 1981 they bought a home in Superior. He loved being a logger. He said that it gave him the freedom to work outdoors in the places he loved without a boss looking over his shoulder. As a gyppo logger he took great pride and bragging rights when he and the crew put a record number of logs in the deck. He continued to log until he was unable due to an injury. He finished his working career at the Tricon Mill in St. Regis.
His passion for golf was unparalleled. He would play as often as humanly possible. A few years back he joined the Montana State Senior Golf Association, and he would eagerly await each year’s tournament. He was tremendously disappointed to miss the one this year.
O’Dean’s greatest joys came from his family. He loved being a Grandpa and when his oldest granddaughter was born he quickly volunteered to retire and open Granddaddy Day Care, and he did just that.
Surviving O’Dean are his wife, Penny; his children Lindsey and Jesse Mulalley with their daughter Adalyn, Brittney Henderson and daughter Ayla along with fiancé Dolan Kottre and his son Banhem; his sisters, Barbara Coy, Valerie and Don Thompson; Aunts, Janice Saulman and Deloris Bourassa. His Uncle Richard and Dorey Henderson and daughter Rickie Rose. He had a multitude of well-loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by many wonderful friends and family.
Services, under the direction of Garden City Funeral Home, will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in Superior, Montana, with inurnment to follow at the Superior Cemetery. Afterwards, a luncheon will be held at the United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make donations to your local chapter of Relay for Life or the Mineral County Public Library.
