Nyla Jane Kimmel, 81, of Missoula passed away while surrounded by family on Sunday, June 30, 2013.
Born on April 10, 1932 to Ralph and Lois Schlosser as their fourth child, she grew up on a farm in Eldorado, Ohio. She and siblings Charles, Miriam, Jenny, and Scott all attended Butler school and then Monroe school where their mother taught. Nyla graduated from Monroe High School and then worked for National Cash Register in Dayton, Ohio. Shortly after graduating high school she met Heath Kimmel. He was also born in Eldorado, Ohio but grew up in Ronan, Montana.
On October 17, 1952 they were married and enjoyed 50 years of life together before Heath passed away. In the early years of their marriage they alternated living in Ohio and then Montana with their first two sons before finally settling in Missoula, Montana where their third son joined the family. The five of them lived in the Rattlesnake area where Nyla took great care of them all and Heath passed his skill and career of carpentry on to his three sons. After their sons were raised they built a new home in Missoula with the help of their sons. The two of them, their sons and daughter in-laws, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren enjoyed many hours there together.
Nyla loved participating in bowling leagues, sewing many items for her family, listening to George Strait, and rooting for the Mariners. She enjoyed watching all six of her granddaughters and one grandson grow up. She liked to talk about her childhood and family history, and especially loved defeating everyone else at card games. She also enjoyed traveling with her family and many family friends, especially if it meant she and her lead foot got to drive. Her great smile and laugh, her sharp sense of humor, saucy wit, stubborn determination, and perfect ability to let you know exactly what she thought will be much missed. Wherever she is now is most certainly a much livelier place.
She is preceded in death by her husband Heath Kimmel and her parents Ralph and Lois Schlosser.
Survivors include her three sons and their families, Eddie and wife Fran with their children, Nature, Natalie, Nathan and Katie, Arnie and his fiancée Theresa and children Abbey and Kaitlyn, and Doug and wife Kathy with their children Jessie and Jennifer; eight great-grandchildren; all four of her siblings; many in-laws as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, July 8 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Immediately following there will be a potluck at 1820 Homestead, Missoula, MT 59808.
