Obituary for Norman Roy Rasmussen

Norman Roy Rasmussen, age 82, passed away peacefully at his home in Missoula on Wednesday, November 8, 2017. He was born on January 26, 1935 in Hay Springs NE, to Antone and Viola Rasmussen.
Norman enlisted in the United States Army in 1953 and served in the infantry in Germany during the Korean conflict. He received an honorable discharge in 1955.
Norman married his High School sweetheart, Doris Prokop, in 1953. Together they had five sons. He started his Lineman career in Hay Springs, NE at the Northwest Rural Public Power Company in 1956. In 1969 he moved his family to St. Ignatius MT, and continued his career at the Bureau of Indian Affairs and Mission Valley Power. He retired in 1996.
In retirement, Norman hiked to the University of Montana “M” on a daily basis, meeting and conversing with people from many different walks of life. He enjoyed spending time with family outdoors, often camping, rafting or hiking. In his later years, he enjoyed watching the University of Montana Grizzlies and the Nebraska Cornhusker football teams.
Preceding him in his death are his parents, Antone and Viola and brothers, Paul and Carl. He is survived by his sister, Elvera Varvel; his beloved wife of 63 years, Doris Rasmussen; his sons Mitch Rasmussen, Dillon MT, Ralph Rasmussen, Boise ID, Terry Rasmussen, Arlee MT, Guy and (Jeanne) Rasmussen, Billings MT, and Wade Rasmussen, Anchorage AK, seven grandchildren, Melissa, Kyle, Cory, Christine, Kent, Katie and Brad and three great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 17, 2017 at Garden City Funeral Home, 1705 W. Broadway, Missoula MT 59808.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be written to WSCFF Burn Foundation and sent to the family at 718 Parkview Way, Missoula, MT 59803.
