Neal Louis Mandelko, 89, was called to his heavenly home Friday, July 26, 2013, at home in Lolo. He was born Jan. 9, 1924, at the family home in Thornton, Ill., the third child of Louis J. and Lydia Schuldt Mandelkow. His three sisters, Betty, Hazel and Alva, preceded him in death.
Enlisting in the U.S. Navy, he served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Attending the University of Montana under the G.I. Bill, he received his bachelor's degree and subsequently master of social work degree.
He was married to two very special people. His first wife preceded him in death after 40 years of marriage. He and his second wife celebrated 25 years of marriage. He had four children, four stepchildren, nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and godchildren.
An avid outdoorsman, he remained physically and mentally active throughout his life. He was a participating member of his church until his death, serving in many capacities. In his life, he excelled at being a father, husband, counselor and friend. He will be sorely missed.
