Nancy Rebecca (Glass) Peters, MSW, Ph.D., 56, born in Garberville, Calif., to Glendon and Jeanina Glass, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Peters.
It was his death at the tender age of 25 that precipitated her phenomenal career in social work. She has touched the lives of hundreds of people who, like her, got lost in tragedy and guided their journey back to the land of the living.
Dr. Nancy Peters has been the director and program coordinator of the Walla Walla University Master's in Social Work program located in Missoula for the past 15 years. She has a bachelor's degree in social work from the University of Alaska-Anchorage, a master's degree in social work from New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, N.M., and a doctorate in human services with emphasis on clinical practice from Capella University. She has spent the past 30 years specializing in trauma, grief and attachment. She is a published author of numerous articles.
Nancy had a passion for living life to its fullest, at work and at play. She was always ready for any adventure, leading all of her friends and family through some pretty hairy situations. She had a passion for gardening, collections of anything you can think of, beading, books and rocks, books and rocks, and more books and rocks, people, family and, most of all, her son and fiancé Charles.
Nancy triumphed over a childhood of violence and trauma without becoming bitter and hard. It gave her the ability to empathize with those who were hurting, never judging, only loving and accepting.
She is survived by her son, Lance Richard Creedy Peters; her loving fiancé, Charles Wolfkill; her mother, Jeanina Bartling and stepfather Floyd Bartling; her siblings, David Glass, Martha Gilmore (husband Richard Gilmore), Rawland Glass (wife Karen Glass), Devi Barnard, James Barnard and Erin Manion; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nancy's family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made for Lance Peters' continued education. Checks payable to Merrill Lynch, 330 N. Higgins Ave., Missoula, MT 59802; write "For Lance Peters" in the memo. Or a donation can be made to the Nancy Peters Scholarship Fund at Walla Walla University, 735 Michigan Ave., Missoula, MT 59802.
A celebration of Nancy's life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 13, followed by a reception at Garden City Funeral Home & Crematory, 1705 W. Broadway.
