Modesta Chavez

January 2, 1943 — October 14, 2024

ENGLISH Version

Modesta Chavez Villarreal, 81, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024, in Missoula, Montana, at home surrounded by her six children.

She was born on January 2, 1943 in Satevo, Chihuahua. She was the third daughter of Ramon Villarreal and Juana Chavira. Modesta had four sisters and three brothers.

Modesta married Mauricio Chavez Carbajal on January 6, 1962. Modesta and Mauricio lived in the state of Chihuahua where they had their seven children. They lived happily married in Naica until he passed away on October 7, 1972.

She lived most of her life in Chihuahua, Mexico, until she moved to the United States in 2005 to dedicate her full time to her family.

Her favorite hobbies were putting together puzzles, playing bingo and lottery. She always won, but of course, she always had her coffee and bread. Mode loved to cook for her children and grandchildren, and also to be surrounded by them.

Modesta, a brave woman, with a strong and strict character, who corrected the bad and applauded the good. A woman of word and honor. A woman who looked after her family and gave unconditional love to those she loved. The strongest woman who passed through our lives. Who until her last breath maintained her character and never gave in to anything or anyone. “When hunger knocks me down, pride lifts me up,” her favorite saying and the one she always followed. That woman was our Queen. She dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren. She taught us many things in life, except how to live without her. Now that God took her away, she left us with a void too big in our hearts that will never be filled. We thank God for giving us this great woman to be our mother and grandmother. The woman who gave everything without expecting anything. This is not a goodbye but a see you later to our beautiful Queen.

Preceded in death by her husband Mauricio Chavez Carbajal and her daughter Imelda Chavez. Survivors include her three daughters, Rosalba, Carmen Dolores, and Leticia, her three sons Mauricio, Miguel, and Ramon Chavez. Including her twenty-three grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, 7-8pm at Blessed Trinity. Mass will be Friday from 11-12pm at Blessed Trinity.
