– On Sunday, April 19, 2015, Mickey Hines, formerly of Kiowa, Colorado, passed away in Missoula. He was born on July 5, 1935, in Burlington, Colorado, to Wilbur and Waunita Hines. He was the third of seven boys.
Upon graduating from high school in Kiowa, he enlisted in the Army, proudly serving in the 82nd Airborne and later he went into the Air Force, as a radar technician, retiring as Base 1st Sgt. in 1976. After moving around for 21 years, Mick, his wife and son moved to Helena, where he worked for Montana State Department of Labor, retiring in 1993.
His interests varied and changed throughout the years. He hunted, fished, golfed, skied (snow and water), competed in archery, rode motorcycles and ATVs. He always enjoyed watching wildlife and being outdoors. As an avid reader, he loved books on all subjects but Montana and American history were among his favorites.
He married Gerry Collins of Littleton, Colorado. They had a daughter Sherry and a son Mitch. Upon his retirement he and Gerry were fortunate to become snowbirds and enjoyed that lifestyle for 22 years. During that time they made their summer home in Huson.
Mick was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Sherry and two brothers, Dean and Lee Hines.
He is survived by his wife Gerry of 57 years; his son Mitch; brothers, Bill Hines, Don Yamell (Ramona), Larry Yarnell (Ellen); Dale Yarnell (Glenda); brother-in-law Tom Collins; and many nieces, nephews and extended family, including his faithful companion dog, Megan.
