Merl Stephen Sage passed away May 20, 2017 at his home at Rock Creek, Montana. His family and friends surrounded him as he left this earth and went home to the Lord after his courageous battle with cancer.
Merl was born January 3, 1946 in Henderson, Nevada and was a graduate of Bishop Gorman High School and entered into the United States Air Force September 24th 1964. After being honorably discharged he was commissioned as a deputy sheriff in 1971 with the Clark County, Nevada Sheriff’s department.
Most of his career was spent as a motorcycle police officer with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Merl was ranked as one of the top law enforcement competitive shooters in the country during his time as a police officer and into his retirement. After serving 25 ½ years as a police officer, Merl retired in February 1997.
Merl then followed his heart and moved to Montana for his love of hunting and the outdoors. It was there he studied and trained to be a Certified Surgical Technologist at St. Patrick’s Hospital in Missoula, Montana. This second career was something he absolutely loved and spent 10 years helping surgical patients before he retired in 2010. It was there that he met the love of his life Michelle and they married on December 16, 2006 and spent 10 ½ wonderful years together.
He was preceded in death by his parents Merl Frederick and June English Sage, and survived by his loving wife Michelle Denise and siblings Jennifer June Tuggle (Steve), Rebecca Sage Wilson (Talmadge (Bill)) and Timothy Francis Sage (Andrea) and sons Merl Thomas (Karmen), Stephen Craig Sage, Nichole Brianna Page (step daughter), Grandchildren - Sarena Sage, Steven and Garrett Sage and our sweet little Quinnci.
Merl was loved by all and was taken from us far too soon. He will be dearly missed.
