Maxine "Max" Mendenhall, 96, of Missoula, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2015, of natural causes.
She was born Feb. 23, 1919, in Worthington, Missouri, to Delbert "Jack" and Alpha Shaw. After several moves between Missouri and Wyoming, the family settled in Newcastle, Wyoming. It was there she met Everett Mendenhall. They were married Nov. 28, 1936, in Hot Springs, South Dakota.
With the exception of a few years in Hamilton, they resided in Newcastle, where they owned and operated different businesses over the years. After Everett's death in 1971, Maxine moved to Missoula to be near her daughter and family.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Victor Hoag; and sister, Lois Starkey.
She is survived by her brother, Vern (Lois) Shaw; daughter, Donna (Gordon) Laridon; granddaughter, Ange Laridon (Marty); grandson, Jason (Cathy) Laridon; granddaughter, Kelley (Jeff) Schlauch; and great-grandchildren, Crystal, Lance, Lily, Jordan and Kade.
Maxine enjoyed bowling, traveling and playing cards, but nothing brought her more pleasure than time spent with friends and family.
The family is most grateful to Dr. William Nichols and his staff, who cared for her so many years, and Partners in Home Care, the staff at Pleasant View and Hospice for the comfort and care they gave.
Cremation has taken place. Graveside services will be held at a later date in Hamilton.
