Maxine Grace Lindren

Maxine Grace Lindgren, 98, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, at her residence in Missoula with family. She was born July 24, 1917, in Columbus to George and Agnes Smith. She married Robert "Bob" Lindgren on Jan. 24, 1939, and they had one child (Phyllis).

She grew up on a homesteaded farm south of Columbus on Huntley Creek. She went to a country school until eighth grade. After marrying Robert, they bought and sold several ranches in the Columbus and Big Timber area. They moved to Livingston in 1952 and lived in a house next to the Yellowstone River. She and Bob owned a meat packing plant and then bought the lumber mill south of Livingston. Bob died in 1961, and Maxine thereafter worked at the Park Hotel in Livingston.

In the late 1960s Maxine moved to Missoula, where she obtained her GED and went to the Modern Business School. She then moved to Kalispell and worked as a secretary for Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She transferred to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Missoula in the early '70s to be close to her family. Her last job was at the Missoula County Treasurer's Office before retiring to help take care of her two grandsons. She was an active member of the Senior Citizen Center and enjoyed sewing, crocheting and embroidery. She also enjoyed traveling with friends and family. She was traveling the country into her 60s and 70s, which included many trips to the family cabin at Flathead Lake. Up until her early 80s, she even babysat her three great-grandchildren.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Lindgren; her parents, George and Agnes Smith; her three brothers (Robert, Herman and Charlie); her five sisters (May, Lucy, Betty, Norma and Violet); and two stepsons (Robert and Richard).

Grandma Max ("G.G." to her great-grandchildren) is survived by her daughter, Phyllis (Bill Bouchee) of Missoula; her grandsons, Bob (Tina) Bouchee and Mike (Jessica) Bouchee of Missoula; her great-grandchildren (Alec, Kyla and Kennedi); and many nieces and nephews.
