Arlee-Maxine Verna Houle Doney, 85, of Arlee passed away at The Pines Assisted Living Center in St. Ignatius on Mon. July 28, 2014 of bone cancer which she courageously fought for two years.
Maxine was born April 24, 1929 in Missoula to Louis and Lela (Davis) Houle, the older of two children. She was educated in Arlee and graduated from Arlee High School which is where she met her husband and love of her life Marvin Doney. They were married in 1949.
Maxine was a member of the Confederated Salish Kootnai Tribe, enjoyed her flower gardens and cooking. She was known as one of the most talented cooks in the valley for her home cookin'. She helped Marvin with his ranching and had wonderful times playing cards with her friends.
Maxine is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Marvin who died in September 2005. She is survived by her sons; Daryl (Katherine) Doney, Kerry (Mary) Doney, and Dale (Kayannette) Doney all of Arlee; her brother Vernon Houle of Anchorage, AK as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Thursday, July 31, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Garden City Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Doug Peterson officiating, at the Arlee Community Center with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Missoula. A reception will follow the burial back at the Arlee Community Center.
