SUPERIOR – Max Johnston, 78, of Superior, passed away of natural causes Sunday, June 10, 2012. He was born March 9, 1934, in Florence to R. Lee and Violet (Bushaw) Johnston.
His early years were spent in Missoula, moving to Superior in 1948. He enlisted in the Navy in 1952 and was aboard the USS Ashtabula during the Korean War, receiving an honorable discharge in 1955.
During his working years, he was engaged in the logging and excavation businesses.
In 1956 he married Colletta McDowell, who survives him, along with his son and daughter-in-law Kelly and Laurie Johnston of Superior, grandson Tim (Dusty) Johnson of Troy, Idaho, and granddaughter Jamie of Brooklyn, N.Y.
In lieu of a service, Max would like his friends to remember him when they "wet a line, buy a tag, swirl the black sand in the gold pan or simply reminisce about the good old days."
