Obituary for Mavis Pearce

MISSOULA - Mavis Eileen Pearce, 82, of Missoula, passed away Thursday, January. 22, 2009, at St. Patrick Hospital of cancer.





Mavis was born July 7, 1926, in Birmingham, England, to Joseph and Laura Whitehouse.





During World War II, Mavis was an operator with the Birmingham Telephone Exchange. She also had an exciting career as a shoe model for the John England Shoe Co. Her love of shoes is a gene she passed on to her daughter and granddaughters.





She met the love of her life, Stanley Pearce, whom she married March 12, 1949. After immigrating, they moved to Missoula in 1963, and built a beautiful family home, which has been shared for 40 years. Her life was always about her family. Mom was an avid knitter whose loving creations will be cherished by all. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.





Survivors include her husband Stanley, Missoula; two children Judith Waters and her husband Sam of Glasgow and John Pearce of Missoula; and seven grandchildren, Charley, Tiffany and Hannah Waters of Glasgow, Shane Pearce of Wisconsin, Nickolas, Austin and Aaron Pearce of Missoula; two sisters, Eunice Usher and family of Little Aston, England and Diane and Robert Hammal and Family of Richmond, North Yorkshire England; two brothers, Alec Whitehouse and family, Sutton Coldfield, England and Neville and Evelyn Whitehouse and family of Walsall, England.





A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January31, at Garden City Funeral Home.





In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in her name.
