Maurine I. Jacobson, born Jan. 17, 1931, fought a noble three-year battle against the cancer that invaded her body, but left our sides to be with God on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013. Her passing leaves our family and the community with a sense of loss that will take far too long to heal.
Parents, Eva and H. A. Samuelson (both deceased); siblings, Bob and wife Jan, Stan and wife Carol, and Marge and husband Dick; children, Curt and wife Lanni, Mark and wife Barb, and Laurie (deceased) and husband, Dave Maxwell; grandchildren, Brittney, Brennan, Julia, Hailey and Nicolas; and great-grandson, Lucas.
Maurine graduated from Jamestown College in North Dakota in 1952 and taught high school commercial classes for four years in Scobey and Havre, then baby-sat children for the rest of the years while Norman taught.
Maurine enjoyed her many volunteer work days with St. Pat's First Class Crew, where she recently received her 25-year service recognition award, and Missoula Aging Services as well. She was very active in her church by happily performing secretarial duties, newsletter responsibilities and quilting sessions during the many years she volunteered at Our Savior Lutheran Church.
Maurine and her husband of 59 years, Norm, enjoyed many trips to Glacier and Yellowstone national parks, where they felt so connected to wildlife and all of their wonders. It seemed as though they were most comfortable while enjoying all the wildlife Yellowstone offered. They loved traveling and exploring and managed to see many corners of the world, including trips to Australia, New Zealand, several to Europe and, of course, the many sights in the 50 U.S. states.
Her positive attitude and personal strength in fighting her illness reflect the wonderful person she was. Over the years, she was fortunate and very grateful for the time she was able to spend with all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spoke so highly of all of them and loved every moment. Her friendships extended beyond her family, as she had been active in organizations such as the Home Demonstration group, quilting clubs, playing cards, pinochle and Red Hat Ladies.
Her love of basketball kept her active from high school to attending as many Griz and Lady Griz games. She will be greatly missed by the many people she touched, but mostly by the souls she touched and warmed as our mother, grandmother and beloved wife.
Maurine's memorial service will held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Bonner. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Our Savior Lutheran Church Endowment, P.O. Box 1005, Bonner, MT 59803; Team Up Montana – "Knights for the Fight," P.O. Box 4587 Missoula, MT 59806; or a donation to the charity of your choice.
The Jacobson family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Missoula for its wonderful care.
