MISSOULA – Maurice Hugo Lund, 74, of Missoula, died at home March 6, 2013.
Moe was born March 17, 1938, in Detroit to Hugo and Eleanor (Jaaske) Lund of Kipling, Mich. He grew up in St. Clair Shores, Mich., graduated from South Lake High School in 1956 and attended the University of Michigan. He married Virginia Ursula Sapienza on May 27, 1966, and they moved to Port Huron, Mich., soon after.
He worked as a land surveyor, but after a work-related accident he retired early and devoted many years to raising his two sons. His family was the most important and most loved part of his life. Moe moved to Gladstone, Mich., in 1982 and also took care of his father Hugo until his death in 2000. In 2005, Moe and Virginia moved to Missoula, where he lived until his death.
Moe was a very loving, patient and generous man who had a great sense of humor. He loved repair projects and spent many hours with his sons tinkering in the garage. He loved fishing, boating and playing cards. He was a serious poker player who cherished playing with family and friends and in semi-professional tournaments.
He is survived by his wife Virginia; two sons, John Lund (Karin Fodness) of Missoula and Tom Lund (Cindy Rigali Lund) of Glenview, Ill.; his brother John Lund (Barb Kennedy Lund) of Glen Lake, Mich.; five grandchildren, Sam and Eric Lund of Missoula and Sophia, Gabriella and Olivia Lund of Glenview; as well as multiple nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, March 11, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Missoula. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Emmaus Campus Ministry of Missoula.
