Mary Ellen Weyermann left us Sunday, April 10, 2016.
She was born on March 21, 1944, in Lewistown to Charles and Betty Foster. She was raised on a cattle ranch with a true appreciation for the seasons of life, and experienced education in a two-room country schoolhouse in Brooks. She went to high school in Lewistown and convinced her family to attend college, earning a bachelor's degree in home economics at Montana State University in 1966. There she met her husband of 50 years, Gary.
Following college she worked in Portland, Oregon, as a food editor for the Oregonian paper. With her expertise she served as a culinary judge for numerous county and state fairs in Oregon and Montana. In Portland and later in Billings, she freelanced with educating home cooks on use of the original microwave ovens. She was active in myriad organizations including Junior League, home economics clubs, 4-H, and Bible studies. Following a move to Missoula, she branched into retail merchandising and weekly cooking for a youth group. She was particularly active with Delta Gamma, women's Bible studies, serving in the church, and rug hooking and crafting circles.
She had a love for her family and being with friends, for sharing and teaching crafting skills, was an adept cook for family, friends and large groups – influenced by her early ranching branding days, and of faithful service to the church. Her enthusiasm, peaceful optimism, full laugh, quick smile, willing spirit, heart for volunteerism, outreach and tender heart will be remembered.
She is survived by husband, Gary; daughters, Deanna Worley (Mark) and Brenda Hanson (Eric); son, Craig; grandchildren, Emily, Brynn and Sean; and brothers, Ted and Eldon Foster.
A memorial service is being held at First Presbyterian Church in Missoula at 2 p.m. Friday, April 15.
