Missoula - MaryLu Schmidt, 80, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Hospital. MaryLu was born on April 21, 1937 in Plevna, MT to her parents William and Mabel Leischner. MaryLu grew up in Miles City and graduated from Custer County high school in 1955.
On July 5, 1955, MaryLu married the love of her life, Ervin Schmidt, in Billings. They were married for 62 loving years. Together they had 5 children Lori Hess (Tom) of Avondale, AZ; Chris (Trina) of Belgrade; Doug (Kim) of Albany, OR; Dawn (Jessie) of Prior Lake, MN; and Dan (Kris) of Missoula. They have 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren with more on the way.
Besides raising her kids, she was a room inspector at the Holiday Inn Parkside for 16 years before she retired. During the summer months, MaryLu would often be found tending to her flower garden. She loved to travel to different places and go visit family. She enjoyed playing games and putting puzzles together. She especially loved spending time with her 5 children and getting everyone together for barbeques.
She is survived by her husband and 5 children, all of her grandchildren, brother Bill Leischner of Laurel; sister Marlene Fisher of Sidney; her half-brother Casper Berger of Bozeman; and Gordon of West Yellowstone. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Keith Leischner.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, April 27 at 2:00 pm at Garden City Funeral Home, 1705 W. Broadway in Missoula. Condolences can be left for the family at www.gardencityfh.com.
