Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Marjorie R. Hightower passed away Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, at the home of her oldest son John and his wife Linda. Words cannot express the families' appreciation to John and Linda Hightower for the loving care given to both Mom and Dad in their last years.
Marjorie ("Marge"/Mom) was born March 18, 1929, in Butte. Mom was orphaned as an infant and she was raised by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph P. Rohan and his family. She was a member of St. Patrick Parish of the Butte Catholic Community North. She spent her youth in Butte, graduating from Butte High School and attending Montana State College, where she met the love of her life. On May 14, 1949, she married Joseph E. Hightower, from Missoula, in Butte. They made their home, built careers and raised a family in Missoula. Mom was a selfless person who always put others' needs before her own. She adored her husband, his family and relatives, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many lifelong friends deeply, and did anything and everything for anyone as long as she was able. She liked gardening, golfing with Dad and going for drives in the mountains of Montana. In Mom's later years, cooking for her family and spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren was her greatest joy.
After her college years, Marjorie completed training in bookkeeping and worked at Missoula Auto Parts, her husband's construction company Structural Systems Inc. and finally as office manager for the Missoula Hell Gate Elks Lodge No. 383, retiring in the mid-1980s.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Joe; her birth parents, the Duffys of Butte; her adoptive parents, the Rohans of Butte; and her brother, Brendon Rohan.
Our mother is survived by her oldest son, John, wife Linda (Thibodeau) and three children, daughter Heather (Travis) Marshall, and twin granddaughters, Emma and Grace; daughter, Emily Hightower, husband Lewis Matteau and grandchildren Hunter and Dana; son, Travis, wife Meaghen and grandchildren Daniel, David and Teddy; and youngest son, Tom, wife Sue (Petroff) and grandchildren Christopher and Cady. The entire family lives in and around the Missoula area.
A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at the Missoula Hell Gate Elks Lodge No. 383. Refreshments and appetizers will be served and the family invites family and friends to join us in celebrating her life. The family would like to thank Hospice services at Partners in Home Care for their assistance in the care of our mother. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to this fine organization or a charity of your choice.
