Marie Lien Onsum, 95, passed away at her home in Lolo on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, of natural causes. She was born on Sept. 21, 1917, at her parents home in Bonner to Harry and Minnie Lien. She graduated from Missoula County High School and attended Pacific Lutheran College. She worked in Great Falls for several years for the Sunday school at home department of her church serving the rural children of the area. On April 24, 1960, she married John Onsum. They lived in Fairfield, Minneapolis, Minn., and Kirkland, Wash., before settling in Lolo.
She worked for the Forest Service as a technical secretary in the timber department until her retirement. She was a member of the Sons of Norway and Christian Life Center. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, music and children. She was a loving wife, mother, aunt and friend who always put the needs of others above her own. She took great joy in the lives of her sons and numerous nephews and nieces. "Aunt Marie" never let a birthday, holiday or graduation go by without at least sending a card and gift.
Throughout her life her faith in the Lord was what guided her and kept her strong.
She was preceded in death by her husband John and her parents Harry and Minnie Lien. She is survived by her two sons, David Onsum of Lolo and Leif (Lori) Onsum of Stevensville; her sister Eva Marshall of Tacoma, Wash., and nephews, nieces, cousins and friends too numerous to name.
Marie's family would like to give special thanks to Betty and Jennifer for all their loving care.
Services will be at the Missoula City Cemetery cremains wall on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 10:30 a.m. with a potluck and celebration of Marie's life following at Lolo Community Center. Please bring all of your stories of her to share.
