Obituary for Margie Kost

MISSOULA - Margie V. Kost, 86, passed away Wednesday, January. 28, 2009, of natural causes.

Margie was born to Byron P. Howard and Sarah S. Tippets Howard August. 1, 1922 in Sidney.

Being born blind, Margie attended and graduated from the Montana School for the Deaf and Blind in Great Falls in June 1940.

She married William John Kost on November. 23, 1941.

Margie was president of the Chapter for the Blind for many years. She was a very independent person, living by herself after the death of her husband. She did her own canning, cleaning and cooking. She was excellent at crocheting. She made many beautiful lap robes and afghans, giving them to nursing homes and special friends.

Margie and her husband operated the cigar and candy stand for quite a few years in Missoula’s main post office, located in the Federal Building.

She was an excellent singer. She and her husband had a band, performing for many years at different locations. Her rendition of “Silent Night” touched everyone who heard it.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and 10 of her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her sister, Iris Franks of Collinsville, Ala., and her good friend, Ardene Lajoie and family.

A celebration of Margie’s life will take place later this year and her ashes will be spread at a later date.

Thanks are extended to the St. Patrick Hospital Transitional Care Unit for the tender and loving care which they gave Margie.

Memorials may be sent to the Montana School for the Deaf and Blind in Great Falls.

Cremation is under the care of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
