MISSOULA - Margaret Edith Squire was born April 10, 1909, in Butte to Mame and Rupert Brundage. Margaret passed away Thursday, January. 1, 2009, at Village Health Care of natural causes.
She attended Butte schools and graduated as an RN from the St. Peter’s School of Nursing, a Catholic teaching hospital in Helena.
She married Edwin L. Squire, Feb. 26, 1930, and moved to Missoula in 1936.
During World War II, she was head nurse on the surgical floor at the Northern Pacific Hospital. Following the war years, she became for many years the sole nurse for Drs. Murphy, Sale and Jones, the forerunner of the Rocky Mountain Eye and Ear Center.
Margaret Squire’s greatest joys were her many friends and her longstanding contribution of service to the community.
She was Past Matron of Immanuel Chapter 54, a 66-year member and past president of the local and state American Legion Auxiliary, a member of Tirzah Temple No. 3, the Daughters of the Nile, Soroptimist Club, and the Holy Spirit Parish. She dedicated considerable time to the Community Hospital as a volunteer.
She was preceded in death by her son, Dr. Donald Squire; her husband, Edwin; her sister and two brothers.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherrie Burrell of New Mexico; three granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; a niece and nephews.
Margaret was “Butte tough,” a legacy to which her descendants are adhering.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Garden City Funeral Home & Crematory and private services have been held.
