Margaret C. "Peg" Ottman died Monday, May 9, 2016, in Missoula, after celebrating Mother's Day with all six of her children.
Peg was born in Livingston on Oct. 9, 1926, to Henry and Elizabeth Crossen. When she was 5 years old she moved with her family to Missoula. She attended St. Anthony Grade School and graduated from Missoula County High School in 1944. In 1948, she graduated from the University of Montana in microbiology. While attending the university she was a member Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and Spurs. In June 1947 she married her high school sweetheart, Jay Ottman. They were married 63 years and of that marriage came six children. Peg was a full time mother and homemaker, with lots of hours spent in the school events of her children. Lindbergh Lake was her hideaway where she spent summers with her family.
After child rearing, she volunteered for Red Cross blood drawings, also serving on the board. She volunteered many times for the St. Patrick Hospital Board and the Missoula Food Bank. She was active in her church, Christ the King, PEO, and best of all, the "Hippie Moms." She and her husband traveled many times to Europe, and while in the United States, she loved skiing, her friends, Lindbergh Lake, her God, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Peg is survived by her daughters, Barbara Ballantyne and her husband Mark of Uzes, France; Jayne Ottman and her partner Becky Hawkins of Jackson, Wyoming, Terry Heinecke and her husband Tom of Kalispell. Her sons are John Ottman and his wife Kari of Missoula, Mark Ottman of San Francisco, California, Michael Ottman and his wife Karen of Helena. Her surviving grandchildren are Taylor Heinecke and wife Frances, Mackenzie Ottman, Connor Ottman, Jackson Ottman, Cody Ottman, Kaylee Ottman, and Aaron Davis and wife Donna. Her great-grandchildren are Keeson, Bailee, and Carlee Davis. She is also survived by her niece and several nephews. Peg was preceded in death by her husband, Jay (2011), her parents and her brother, Cyril Crossen.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a memorial service at Christ the King Church on Monday, June 6, at 11 a.m. A celebration of Peg's life will be held Sunday, June 5, 4-7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Missoula downtown, 200 S. Pattee.
