Obituary for Margaret Chaffin

MISSOULA - Margaret Louise Ogg Chaffin passed away peacefully at St. Patrick Hospital after courageously battling various forms of cancer for nearly 40 years. You never heard Margaret complain or talk about her lengthy battle with cancer.

Margaret was born in Hamilton and attended grade school and high school there. She later attended beauty school in Spokane.

After marrying Chester Chaffin, Margaret was busy raising three daughters. She was also active in training and showing champion Hackney show ponies.

Margaret continued to raise her three daughters while working at St. Patrick Hospital. She walked to and from every shift for 22 years and retired at the age of 62 on January. 19, 1985.

Margaret spent her retirement years enjoying traveling and visiting family and friends. She had a great love for animals and shared her life with her special cats and dogs, as well as her best friend and cockatiel Luke.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Helen Ogg; her sister, Mary Helen; and brother, William.

Survivors include her daughters, Karen (Dave) Lowe of Bend, Ore., Helen (Carl) Bade of Olympia, Wash., and Nancy (Dennis) Fisher of Missoula; grandchildren, Gary Lowe, Kimberly Taylor, Sandy Lowe, Chris Bade, Carla Despres, Corrin Bade, Breana Fisher and Collin Fisher; great-grandchildren, Jazmine, McKenna and Nathan Taylor and Josh, Luke and Hannah Bade.

Margaret and her family wish to express their thanks to all her friends and caretakers at St. Pat’s cancer center for the loving care they provided to “Mugs.” Special thanks to Dr. William Nichols for the many years of quality care he provided Margaret.

In lieu of flowers, Margaret requested donations be made to either the Western Montana Humane Society or the Missoula Cancer Society.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January. 2, at Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory. A reception will follow in the funeral home’s community room.
