Obituary for Marcella A. Sturm

15 hours ago(0) CommentsMISSOULA – Marcella A. "Sal" Sturm passed away at home on Thursday, May 9, 2013, in the loving care of her family. Sal was a resident of western Montana for nearly 65 years, moving from South Dakota to Anaconda, with her husband, Louis J. Sturm. Upon retirement, the couple moved to Missoula in 1978.

Sal was born Nov. 27, 1919, to Roy and Sue Dornbusch in Milbank, S.D. She was the second oldest of nine children. She met Louis J. Sturm in Milbank and they were married on Sept. 24, 1941, in Milbank. Lou passed away Feb. 15, 1987.

She is survived by three daughters, Karla Ramsey and her husband Bob of Bigfork, Jody Hammond and her husband Kevin of Missoula, and Linda Sturm, also of Missoula. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Rob Ramsey and his wife Katja of Concord, Calif., Steve Ramsey and his wife Aurelia of Bigfork, and Nick Hammond and his wife Julia, Nate Hammond and Jesse Hammond, all of Missoula. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Emma and Robby Ramsey of Concord.

Sal was a member of the Spirit of Peace Community. She was always a kind, generous, and compassionate mother and friend. Sal showed, by example, what the Scripture teaches. She walked the talk.

Sal was a wonderful cook, and her home was central to many holidays and family gatherings throughout the years. Her hobbies also included sewing and crocheting. As an accomplished seamstress, she made beautiful clothes for her daughters in their early years, and through high school. She was completely devoted to her family. She crocheted beautiful afghans for every family member, as well as donating many for numerous church fundraisers.

Her devotion to her children, grandchildren and great-grand children will be sorely missed. Sal will finally be with Lou. Their love, kindness and generosity will resonate with all who will miss them.

Burial has taken place and a celebration of her life will follow in June at Spirit of Peace Community. The date will be announced.
