– Lucinda Hightower, 80, of Missoula, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, at Kathy's Place in Florence of natural causes.
She was born Nov. 7, 1933, at home outside of Polson to Tulla Spencer Wright and Mary Wright. Born during the Great Depression, she was raised on a farm where she hauled water from nearby Turtle Lake. She was the fifth of six children and graduated from Polson High School in 1952.
On Oct. 21, 1954, Lucinda married Wayne H. Hightower in Missoula. The Hightowers had just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary when Wayne passed away Nov. 8, 2012. The couple lived in Missoula most of their lives. A job took them to Riverside California in 1986, returning to Missoula when Wayne retired in 1993.
Lucinda enjoyed spending time with her family hosting many holiday and birthday dinners over the years. She shared her love of Montana with her kids and grandkids. She could tell them the names of all the wildflowers as they hiked through the pines and the creek bottoms. She took pleasure in studying all aspects of American history.
Survivors include son, Klas Hightower of Lolo; daughter, Terry Hightower of Missoula; two sisters-in-law, Irene Mandelko of Lolo and Maxine Searles of Missoula; along with six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 28, at the Lolo Community Church, 11897 Lewis & Clark Drive, Lolo, MT 59847, with Pastor Jeff Boschmann officiating.
Lucinda loved her church and serving the Lord however she could. Memorials can be made to the Rocky Mountain Bible Mission, 1515 Fairview Ave., Suite 200, Missoula, MT 59801.
