Lorraine V. Wamsley, 90, of Missoula, passed away of natural causes on Saturday, August 2, 2014, at the Village Senior Residence. Her daughter, Sandy, was by her side.
Lorraine was born January 31, 1924, in Missoula, to Walter and Stella (Jones) Stahl. She was educated in Missoula Schools and upon graduation attended St. Luke's School of Nursing in Spokane, Washington. She received her Registered Nursing Certificate in January 1945. She was incredibly proud to have been a nurse and was always happy to remind her current nurses and doctors that she was a nurse and she would be actively helping them in their diagnosis and treatment. Her nursing career included time as a surgical nurse at Community Hospital and working for Dr. Tripplehorn.
In 1942 , while on vacation from nurse's training, Lorraine met Emory Wamsley, a handsome Air Force man from West Virginia who was traveling through Missoula. They kept in touch for the next 2 years and when he came home from the War they were married in 1945. After being discharged from the Air Force, they returned to West Virginia, but felt Montana was the place they would like to settle, so returned to Missoula. They were lucky enough to share 64 years of marriage.
Following their retirement, they spent several winters in Arizona and Las Vegas—mom liked those poker machines! Lorraine loved and excelled at sewing, knitting, golfing and working the morning crossword and cryptogram. Later in life she tried her hand at watercolor painting and did remarkably well. She was an avid Griz fan and although she did not attend too many games in person, she never missed a TV or radio broadcast of the games. On game day she was always decked out in her Griz colors.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Emory; her parents, and her two brothers Walter (Gene) and Stan Stahl. She is survived by her daughters Sandy (Paul) Evenson and Sally Seiller and four grandchildren—Jennifer Hopkins, Jeff Marshall, Jason Seiller and Chelsea Seiller. Five great-grandchildren also survive her.
A graveside service will be held at the Missoula City Cemetery on August 7 at 11:00 a.m.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Staff of the Village Senior Residence for their kindness and care. We are also deeply thankful for the services of Hospice of Missoula. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to Hospice of Missoula, 800 Kensington Ave., Suite 204, Missoula, Montana 59801.
Mom: Your lonely days without Dad are over, your back does not hurt anymore, and you are at peace. We love you and will miss you all the days of our lives. S&S
