After going through an ordeal that no one deserves, Mom was finally set free. She was one who truly tried to find the best in everyone and every situation, including the illness she so valiantly endured.
Lola Breckenridge, 88, passed away Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at Hillside Manor.
Mom was born in a small farmhouse outside of Stickney, S.D., on May 1, 1925, to Fredrick and Ella Boeker. She was the fifth of six children.
She graduated from nursing school in Mitchell, S.D. In 1951 she married the love of her life, Robert G. Breckenridge, to whom she was happily married for 53 years until his death in 2005.
Mom worked as a nurse at the Western Montana Clinic for 18 years until her retirement. She loved her family, her home, her beagle Gabe and her cat Blackie. She really loved to watch Grizzly football on TV. Whenever the Griz were were being clobbered, she always said, "Don't these other teams know how hard our boys work? They should give us a few points so we can catch up!" All said from the painful confines of her wheelchair.
She always put everyone else first and herself second. Her bright blue eyes and her accepting smile welcomed all.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents, Fredrick and Ella Boeker; brothers Ervie and Herb Boeker; sister Verna Cooper; and her husband Bob.
Mom is survived by her children, Chris (Hugh) Martinsen, Steve (Cindy) Breckenridge and Jim Breckenridge; and grandchildren Ben and Tyler Martensen and Emily and Stuart Breckenridge, all from Missoula.
The family would like to extend their grateful thanks to Hillside Manor for their kind attentive care.
Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held.
"Godspeed, Mom, you will be very much missed but never forgotten."
"That though the radiance which was once so bright be forever taken from my sight. Though nothing can bring back the hour of splendor in the grass the glory of the flower. We will grieve not rather find strength in what remains behind." – William Wordsworth
