Lois A. Asch

June 29, 1930 — March 10, 2022

Lois Ann (Hunter) Asch, age 91 passed away March 10, 2022 at Hillside Health and Rehabilitation in Missoula, MT. She resided independently in her Florence, MT residence for over 25 years with her husband David Asch.

She was born in 1930 to Walter R. Hunter and Genevieve “Jenny” D. (McTaggart) Hunter in Missoula, MT. A sister Mary Jo Hunter arrived 2 years later. Her parents divorced during the depression. Living nearby, maternal aunts Mary Elizabeth “Bunny”(McTaggart) Bouck, Ebert, Meisinger and Hazel (McTaggart) Medcalf along with first cousin John Charles “King” Bouck created an extended family. Her youth was often spent on her grandparent’s Joseph and Minnie (Retallack) Hunter’s dairy farm in Stevensville, MT with fraternal cousin Nora Norine Joyce daughter of Maidie (Hunter) Joyce, Stordeur.

Lois graduated from Missoula County High School in 1949. She attended many “Forty Niner” reunion events. Early in life she worked for Mid Continent Airlines. She married three times, first to Tom Farrington which took her to Alaska and second, to Ed Casebeer. Ed and Lois lived in Indiana. By chance she met David Asch, her third husband, in the lobby of the Florence Hotel. He was in town raising funds for the new Missoula Community Hospital. They lived in New York, New England and Los Angeles during their career years.

Lois proudly worked as a large account (corporate) Case Manager for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in Los Angeles until retirement. She succeeded in a male dominant profession by being fair, diligent and thorough.

Lois and David retired to Florence, MT mid 1990’s. A Carousel For Missoula soon caught her eye. She painted ponies and was pleased with her endeavor. Lois loved her special cats and took extraordinary care of them. Other interests included dancing, sewing glamorous dance outfits and tooling around in her MR2.
She admired jewelry and wore Bob Mackie designed clothes. Lois was a sharp
independent lady.

She also dedicated many retirement years to the full time care of her mother “Jenny”, her sister Mary Jo and her husband David. It was a gift she gave willingly. The family also thanks Pat Tarno for her four year care of Lois. You Rock Girl!

Lois had no children. She is predeceased by David Asch, her husband of 46 years, and her sister, Mary Jo (Hunter) Jacobson and a brother-in-law Dale Jacobson. Also her older half sister, Delores (Hunter) Hieronymus of Hamilton, MT predeceased Lois. Her parents Walter and Genevieve and step father Lyle Frank Karkanen predeceased Lois too. Both Lois’s mother “Jenny” and her aunt “Bunny” lived well unto their 90’s. Hazel (McTaggart) Medcalf predeceased her in the early 1980’s. Maternal first cousin “King” Bouck and Fraternal first cousin Norine (Joyce) Towle also predeceased Lois.

She is survived by stepson Latimer Asch, Petaluma, CA. Her maternal first cousin, Gary Bouck, brother to “King” Bouck and second cousin Joan Bouck, daughter of “King” Bouck. Fraternal second cousin, Desera Towle, daughter of Norine (Joyce) Towle. Additional cousins survive Lois.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 13th at 1:00pm at the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery, Missoula, MT, where Lois will be interred next to her husband, David Asch.

Memorials may be sent to A Carosel For Missoula, P.O. Box 3345, Missoula, MT 59806.
