Lloyd's children are so deeply grateful to Kim and Tim for welcoming our dad into their home and truly making it his home.
He was the 13th child of Martha and Henry Loewen, born Aug. 13, 1935, in Hazen, N.D. When he was 2 years old, the family moved from Hazen to Missoula. Growing up, he developed a passion for fishing from his many older brothers and sisters. Lloyd attended Missoula schools and created friendships that lasted his whole life.
On Dec. 10, 1954, he married Mary D. Rannberg, and together they raised five children. They were married for 56 years, residing on the Northside of Missoula. He was a lifelong union cement mason who worked on many of Missoula's landmark buildings.
He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, traveling and countless family get-togethers. Lloyd attended Grace United Methodist Church for many years. After being widowed, Lloyd moved to Clark Fork Manor, where he met many dear friends and greatly enjoyed all the Caras Park festivities.
Though he held no world records nor achieved greatness from a worldly point of view, his legacy will be his devotion and love for his children and grandchildren.
Lloyd was preceded in death by the love of his life, Mary; as well as his parents; his precious granddaughter, Kaylee; brothers, Vic, George, Darol, Roy, Frank and Lawrence; and sisters, Esther Hauck, Luella Zachariasen and Clara Heinemeyer.
He is survived by his brother, Ervin; sisters, Violet Zachariasen and Marie Ward; children, Mark (Suzanne) Loewen, Lorna (Peter) Wall, Doreen (Dale) Stevenson, Randy (Sue) Loewen and Kim (Tim) Taunt; and grandchildren, Luke and Jenna Wall, T.J. and Jon (Amanda) Taunt, Mikayla and Ethan Stevenson, and Kristin Loewen.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staffs of St. Patrick Hospital, Montana Cancer Specialists and Aspen Hospice, who helped lovingly care for Lloyd.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11, at Grace United Methodist Church at the corner of 10th and Garfield streets with a reception immediately following. Interment will take place at Missoula City Cemetery prior to the service at 9:30 a.m.
