Lindsay Ray Ashton, 25, of Missoula, passed away at the Kalispell Regional Medical center on Monday, June 14 2021 from a whitewater kayaking accident on the “Wild Mile” stretch of Swan River in Bigfork, Montana on May 29th.
She was born on March 9, 1996 in American Fork, Utah. Three weeks later, she moved to Helena, Montana where she grew up. Lindsay graduated high school with honors in June of 2014. She then went to the University of Montana on a full ride presidential scholarship and graduated in Enviromental Studies in May of 2018.
Since graduating college, Lindsay has worked as a wildland firefighter and managing trail crews for the U.S. Forest Service in the summers and spent her winters backcountry skiing and adventuring.
Lindsay was an outdoors enthusiast. She was passionate about backcountry skiing, backpacking, mountain biking, white water kayaking, and as of recent paragliding. She loved to cook and bake amazing food for her friends and family. She loved reading, wildflowers, and swimming in any cold water she found.
Survivors include her life partner and soulmate Cooper Horton, her loving parents Robert Pocock Ashton, Kristin Baker Ashton and her younger sisters, Sierra Dawn Ashton and Jadyn Brooke Ashton. And many friends and family who love her dearly.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday June 22 at 11 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 1610 E 6th Ave in Helena, Montana and a celebration of life will be held from 4-6pm at West Side Studio and Theater 1200 Shakespeare suite 2 in Missoula, Montana
