Leslie Treichel

October 11, 1938 — May 22, 2024

Leslie Howard Treichel , 85 of Missoula, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, in his home surrounded by loved ones.  


He was born on October 11, 1938, in Missoula to Rhiney and Emma Treichel.   He graduated from Missoula County High School in 1957.  He enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1956 and served for 8 years.  While in the National Guard,  he was in the Special Forces, Staff Sergeant and was called to the Deer Lodge Prison Riot in 1959.  

On November 4, 1961, he married the love of his life, Helen Torgrimson.   They shared a wonderful 65 years together before he passed.  

He worked at Bonner Mill for 8 years.  He then started his career with the railroad as a Telegrapher for Northern Pacific Railroad in 1965.  He advanced to a Dispatcher and he retired in 2001 after 36 years with BNSF. 

Preceded in death by his parents Rhiney and Emma Treichel, brother Ken Treichel, and granddaughter Alexis Stobb.  

Survivors include his wife, Helen, daughter Jan Krug (Ron) Missoula, daughter Kathy Lathrop (Pete) Missoula, daughter Chris Stobb (Randy) Missoula, and son, Tim Treichel (Roma Constanza) Colorado Springs.  Toby and Elli, his beloved cats.  He was survived by 10 grandchildren.

Services will be on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery in Missoula.
