Leonard "Spud" Leslie Bowman, Jr., passed away Wed. July 29, 2015 at St. Patrick Hospital. Leonard was born on July 31, 1929 to Leonard Leslie Bowman and Mable Strait in Blakeslee, MT.
Leonard is survived by his second wife Dee Bowman at the family home in Missoula, MT; two daughters Diana Miller of Virginia Beach, VA and Debra DeWitt of Renton, WA; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Marjorie Branson and one son William Leslie Bowman, his parents and a brother LeRoy.
He proudly served in the US Army from 1947 - 1950, the National Guard from 1955 – 1957, the US Army Reserve from 1957 – 1960 as a truck driver and crane operator. He worked for BNSF for many years before retiring. He loved trains and he liked to dance. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and was president of the Retread Club. He was an amateur Radio Operator. They enjoyed camping and riding their ATV's all over the mountains.
He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many positions.
Leonard was a loving husband, father, grandfather. He is going to be greatly missed by one and all. He was always the first person to volunteer to help anyone.
Graveside services will be Thurs., Aug. 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery located at 1911 Tower St. with Bishop Donald Caulkins presiding, pallbearers are David Fisher, Jason Bowman, Stephan Steadman, Andrew Maunder and Sara Steadman. Memorial Luncheon to follow at the L.D.S. Church on South Ave.
Cremation is under the care of Garden City Funeral Home. Condolences and memories may be left for the family at www.missoulafuneralhomes.com
