On December 9, 2015 we lost a great lady – mother, grandmother, great grandmother, relative and friend to many. Laurel "Lolly" Charlton was born November 13, 1924 to Earl and Wavie Charlton in Paradise, Montana. She married Lavern Schneiter in 1942 and they settled in Missoula prior to starting their family, which eventually included one daughter and four sons. Lolly and Vern were happily married 39 years before his passing in 1982.
Lolly attended schools in Hot Springs, Plains, Whitehall and accounting school in Spokane, which led to her chosen professional career. She worked for Spicher Accounting Firm and then started a 28-year accounting career with the 4B's restaurant chain before retiring in 1990.
She was a "woman on the go", forging many lifelong relationships along the way. For more than sixty years she was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and active in Beta Sigma Phi social sorority. Other interests included ceramics, pinochle club, bridge and senior citizens. The light of her life was her family and she took special pride in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They will always cherish memories of times at the lake, her story telling, playing cards, holiday festivities and her love of reading.
Lolly was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and five siblings. Survivors include her brother Tom Charlton and wife Ruth of Plains, her five children and their spouses, Lorrie Beaulieu (Dan), Jim Schneiter (Pam), Dennis Schneiter (Gwen), Dan Schneiter (Shirley) and Steve Schneiter (Shaun); her loving grandchildren Chris and Todd Beaulieu, Heather Schneiter, Chad Schneiter, Matt Schneiter, Alika Skaggs, Kelly Schneiter, Lindsey Kennedy, Libby Carroll and Rick Schneiter. She also leaves behind 14 great grandchildren with another one expected in the spring in addition to many nieces and nephews.
The family extends great appreciation to the caring staff at Bee Hive Homes for the special attention that was given to our mom during her stay there.
Visitation will be held Saturday, December 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Garden City Funeral Home, followed by a celebration of Lolly's life at 10:00 with a reception to be held after the celebration in the funeral home's community room. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens following the reception.
