Larry Douglas Foust, born Feb. 16, 1946, passed away suddenly on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2013. Larry graduated from the University of Montana, and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict. Larry was one of the first military intelligence officers of the newly designated branch. Thanks to Larry's ability to learn foreign languages, his Vietnamese language skills were essential in his role as a military adviser. He ultimately was award the Bronze Star for his service.
Larry returned to Missoula after Vietnam with his wife and two sons. While getting his master's degree back at the University of Montana, Larry taught taekwondo. After completing his master's degree, Larry started working for the Missoula County Public Schools at Seeley-Swan High School. He eventually transferred to Sentinel High School and retired after 38 years as a teacher. Larry was a true outdoorsman. He always enjoyed spending time with his family fishing and being outside with nature. He had a love for animals, so much so he always maintained rabbits, ducks, dogs and cats at his home. He passionately worked on his personal rock garden for many of years, a creation that evolved with each year's passing.
Larry was married for 42 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Viola Foust. Survivors include his wife, Anh Foust; son Sean Foust; son Philip Foust and brother Rick Foust.
A private family service will be held at home.
